Don't blink, or you might miss the stretch of Route 20 that slices through Montana. It's only about 10 miles long. The road takes you through the tourist town of West Yellowstone, and into the gates of the country's first national park.

HIGHWAY HIGHLIGHT: You could stop in any of the many T-shirt and Yellowstone kitsch shops in West Yellowstone. Or, you could stop at Lion's Head Resort for a night at Alice's Restaurant. For four decades, the restaurant, or really the dance hall next door, has been a haven for square dancers. In the late 1960s, owners Buck and Alice Jones started the square dancing to give park visitors something else to do. The restaurant gets international dancers, and some customers have returned every summer for decades. If do-si-doing isn't your thing, you're welcome to just sit and watch the dancers. The restaurant is also known for its trout, grown in a trout pond on site.

QUOTE: "Meet your corner! Do an allemande left! Right and left grand! Every other girl and every other hand! Meet your partner and promenade." – Bob Fisk, square dance caller at Lion's Head Resort.
